What do I need to Obtain a Permit?
First you need to pass and obtain a DOT Physical and take a copy to the BMV for their records. Then:

You must pass a General Knowledge test at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)

You must also pass an Air Brakes test at the BMV

You must finally pass the Combination test at the BMV

And any other endorsements that will accompany your license.

You must take an Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Program
If you cannot obtain a permit before the start of class that is perfectly fine.
